Set The Table

Have you have ever wondered what is next for your family, questioned your purpose as a believer, or thought what can you contribute in your stage of life? Then I charge you to set the table for your life and the lives around you by inviting God to be the center piece of all you live for. It doesn’t matter if you are single, married, kids, no kids, a widow, etc. As women of God we have a charge to love. If you have never thought about a mission statement, or even know what one is, please read the one below that my husband and I developed together, and use it as a template to develop your own. I do encourage you to pray and think through this sincerely and to put into practice what you say you believe. This has been most rewarding as we have welcomed a son into God’s purpose for our family, along with welcoming family and others whom we have sought to disciple through a culture of Christ’s love. While we purpose to live for Christ and still fall short of the glory, we do have an aim to implore setting the atmosphere of our lives to consistently reflect the love of Christ Jesus. Do set the table for God to be welcomed into the heart of your life’s purpose!

The Martins Family Mission Statement

The purpose of our marriage is to glorify God. We believe that Lord has ordained our steps and that He alone has brought us together for His greater purposes on Earth. Psalm 37:23 states “The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way.” We first aim to keep a peaceful home and to be intentionally missional for the Lord with each other. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 13:11 to “Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.” We aim to glorify God through our bodies in love and submission to each other, reflecting the love of Christ for the church. As a Christian couple, we want to serve each other modeling the biblical teachings for husbands and wives. We aim for this in the union God has allowed between husband and wife that we may be a testimony to all who are watching as evidences of the dwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives. John tells us in John 13: 35, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” We are committed to faithful love with each other, which covers a multitude of sin, as a reflection of our Savior and Redeemer Christ Jesus, our Heavenly Father, and the Holy Spirit who are Faithful in innumerable ways to us.

The purpose of our family and home is to be used as a witness to testify of Christ Jesus and to serve in fulfilling our biblical roles to train and disciple. Our home will be used to love and disciple all who enter from children, extended family, friends, and strangers. The legacy we want to leave is for our children to rise up and call us blessed followers of Christ Jesus. A goal with training our children is for them to become “believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination” according to Titus 1:6. We desire to fulfill Deuteronomy 6:7 by teaching the Scriptures while sitting in our house, walking by the way, when we lie down, and when we rise. Our commitments within our family are to reflect the fruit of the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus. We are committed to the ministry of reconciliation, honesty, faithfulness, and love above all else. Our personal faith and obedience to the Lord is reflected in our relationships as we all submit our lives to the obedience of Christ. The husband is charged to submit to Christ and love his wife and children, and the wife is called to submit, obey, love, and respect her husband. As these disciplines are exercised in the parents they will influence the children as they are trained, disciplined, and disciple to also submit, obey, and honor both parents in reverence to I Corinthians 11:3, and Ephesians 6:1-2. Our goal as parents is to be a living example of the testimony of Christ for our children. Our home’s purpose will serve as a place of missional intention, refuge, peace, hospitality, and unconditional love.

The purpose of our ministry is to point all who are in our path of life to Christ Jesus. Our heart for ministry is to share the insights of the Word imparted to us to encourage the weak, win the lost, and to show ourselves approved, not ashamed, and rightly handling the word of Truth as we are charged to do in II Timothy 2:15. Some specific goals utilizing our marriage and family is to be influential through making disciples in our home and to the ends of the earth. We have a heart for sound theology, biblical mandates for Christian parents and families, and a heart to care for those who cannot care for themselves such as the orphans and widows. We hope to minister to the lives brought into our paths during the season we are in. It is our aim to have an impact of sound doctrine and biblical philosophies with men and women. To the men, understanding scripture with conservative theology and to love their families, church, and neighbors, and for the women to rightly understand their biblical roles and call to precious modesty touching all aspects of life in love and respect as women of faith.
